80% Network Restoration after TC Harold

PORT VILA, 13 APRIL 2020 – Vodafone Vanuatu has deployed its disaster recovery teams to revive our communication network in the northern islands just after the huge devastation left behind by TC Harold.

We have used all available logistics, helicopter and ships for our engineers to reach the aected islands as quickly as possible. They have been working day and night to bring up communication services for our Vodafone families to stay connected during this difficult time.

After his visit in Santo, Vodafone CEO Mr. Barlen has mentioned that “the devastation is similar to what we have witnessed during cyclone Pam in Vila”. He would like to commend the communities on the resilience and dedication during this hard time and the hardworking Vodafone engineers team on sites, who are ensuring that the Northern region is back to normal as soon as possible.

As of now, more than 80% of Vodafone network is operational. The network has been restored in Torres & Banks islands, Luganville, East, South and part of West Santo, Malekula, Ambae, Ambrym, Maewo, Paama, Epi island. This week, Vodafone teams are working to restore services in North West Santo and Pentecost which are amongst the most affected areas.

Vodafone Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Thomas would like to thank everyone for their patience as the technical engineers are working very hard to have its whole coverage back to normal. He would also like to thank TRBR and OGCIO for the support.
